A neighborhood watch is an organized group of citizens devoted to crime and vandalism prevention within a neighborhood.  In other words, neighborhood watch is a crime prevention program under which members of a given community agree together to keep an eye on one another's properties and report suspicious incidents to the local police.  The aim of neighborhood watch includes educating residents of a community on security and safety and achieving safe and secure neighborhoods.  However, when a criminal activity is suspected, members are encouraged to report to authorities, and not to intervene.  Blocks are "organized" and appoint/elect a block captain.  We encourage blocks to host events on their block (such as block parties) so that neighbors get to know each other.

A town watch program actively patrols (using marked vests or jackets and caps) and usually is equipped with two way radios to directly contact local police.  Sometimes, town watch members patrol in the police cars with an officer.  Town Watch serves as an auxiliary to the police which provides weapons (if any), equipment and training.  The town watch member usually returns their gear to the police department at the end of their duty shift.

Easttown Township Neighborhood Watch, like other programs nationwide, draws upon the compassion of average citizens, asking them to lend their neighbors a hand.  Our nation is built on the strength of our citizens.  Every day, we encounter situations calling upon us to be the eyes and eyes of law enforcement -- ETNW works to educate our citizens and unite the Police Department, private organizations and individual citizens in a community-wide effort to reduce crime and improve our local community.  Visible signs of the program can be seen throughout Easttown Township on street signs, window decals, community block parties, and service projects.

You can organize your block under the Easttown Township Neighborhood Watch (ETNW) banner by hosting a yearly meeting with the ETNW Liaison officer (Sgt. Frank Keenan).   Sgt. Keenan can be contacted at the Easttown Police Department office and he will be happy to arrange a block meeting on your street.  The police department email
is police@easttown.org and the phone number is 610-341-9780.  (Note:  emails will be responded to in 1-3 business days).
